Espresso Martini

The Perfect After-Dinner Drink - Espresso Martini

If you are a coffee lover needing something stronger than caffeine, then an espresso martini might be exactly what you are looking for. With a rich and creamy taste, it is a perfect choice for an after-dinner drink, especially if you have more plans later in the evening.

Fun fact, however - an espresso martini is not an actual “real” martini. A martini is a drink made of gin and vermouth, and an espresso martini doesn’t contain either. Still, despite this little… abnormality, you could say an espresso martini has become a staple in cocktail menus around the world. So, let’s learn together how to make an espresso martini, shall we?

Best Espresso Martini Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz vodka
  • ½ oz coffee liqueur
  • 1 oz of freshly brewed espresso
  • ¼ oz simple syrup
  • Coffee beans for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Make simple syrup: Simple syrup is made of just two ingredients - water and white sugar. Grab one cup of each, combine them in a medium saucepan over medium heat, bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and keep doing so until the sugar dissolves. Allow your mixture to cool down.
  2. Grab the rest of the ingredients you prepared and add them to a well-chilled shaker filled with ice. Always use freshly made espresso for the best taste.
  3. Shake well - this will create a foamy layer on top of the espresso martini.
  4. Strain the cocktail into a martini glass.
  5.  Add coffee beans on top for decoration (usually three).

That’s all there is to it, really.

Does It Matter What Coffee I Use for Espresso?

The beauty of a homemade espresso martini is that you can use any coffee you want to make the espresso shot. Whether you prefer quick and easy coffee pods or the taste of espresso made using bagged coffee, you have the freedom to use whichever you love more for your drink.

Why Use Three Coffee Beans for Decor?

If you order an espresso martini in a bar or a restaurant, it is most likely to be garnished with exactly three coffee beans. And while it might seem like it’s just a random number, those beans are actually meant to represent the three blessings - health, wealth and happiness.

The Bottom Line

While the origins of an espresso martini might still not be fully known, as there are a few different stories associated with it, one thing’s for sure - it has become one of the most recognizable and ordered alcoholic beverages around the world - and thanks to our easy espresso martini recipe, you can make it at home in just a few steps.

Recipes like this truly show the versatility of coffee and how you don’t have to just drink it plain. There’s so much that coffee can be used for that it would be a shame not to try at least some of them. Cinnamon Roll Latte and Angelino’s Boozy Iced Coffee are just two examples of that.
