Los Angeles Based Roaster Angelino’s Wins Thailand’s #1 Top Coffee at Cup of Excellence Auction
Los Angeles, CA. August 21, 2024 – Angelino’s Coffee is celebrating a major milestone with their recent win at the Cup of Excellence (COE) auction, where they secured the prestigious #1A coffee from Thailand. As a leading coffee producer in Southeast Asia and among the top 25 globally, Thailand has undergone a significant transformation in its coffee industry. Although specialty coffee production started relatively recently, the past seven years have seen remarkable momentum. Today, Thailand—especially the Chiang Mai region—is increasingly recognized for its innovative processing methods and speciality quality standards.
The top coffee at this year's auction was a honey-processed Java variety from the Coffee De Hmong Bio Farm in Nan. This exceptional 1A Presidential-winning coffee was cultivated on land once used for growing cabbage. In 2012, the farm’s founder proposed the cultivation of coffee, initiating a tree planting project to create a sustainable environment and minimizing chemical usage. The resulting coffee features a delicate and refined profile with smooth, soft flavors, bright citrus notes, and a gently sweet aftertaste—offering a beautifully balanced cup with hints of jasmine, citrus, and stone fruit.

The Cup of Excellence (COE), based in Portland, Oregon, holds prestigious coffee competitions in 11 countries to honor top small-lot coffees. These coffees are rigorously evaluated through multiple cupping sessions by both local and international judges. Winning coffees undergo strict testing to ensure their superior quality.
