In the misty hills of Cajamarca, Peru, coffee is more than a crop. For Miguel Padilla Chinguel, it is a family legacy, a livelihood, and a calling passed down through generations. At just ten years old, Miguel began tending coffee trees alongside his six siblings, learning from his parents and grandfather.

In 2021, Miguel and his wife, Nelcy Guerrero, began their own chapter with El Mirador, a farm perched at 1,800 meters in the Chimburique region, named for its sweeping views. There, they grow Geisha, Caturra, and Bourbon varieties using sustainable practices that preserve the environment while honoring the legacy of those who came before them.

Miguel never imagined he would win a coffee competition, but since winning first place in Peru's Cup of Excellence he dreams of improving his farm, expanding his crops, and one day creating his own coffee brand. Most of all, he hopes to build a better future for his three children and pass on the lessons that shaped his life.

The Cup of Excellence is the most prestigious coffee competition, identifying the finest coffees through rigorous evaluation.
