From the first harvest of La Perla Farm, this washed Bourbon is a remarkable expression of the farm’s highland terroir. Grown at 4,921 feet and processed with meticulous care, it scored 90.79 points, reflecting the precision and passion behind every stage of its production.

The cup is lively and layered, with notes of winey sweetness, caramel, hazelnut, rum, pomelo, citric brightness, and a sparkling, sweet white wine structure. It captures both elegance and character, shaped by the farm’s ravine-bordered microclimate where warm and cool air currents meet. The washed process brings clarity and finesse, highlighting Bourbon’s classic sweetness while offering a beautifully, authentic representation of Mexican coffee.

This lot is more than a coffee. It is a celebration of family heritage renewed, and a new chapter in La Perla’s journey to redefine Veracruz coffee on the world stage.

Ernesto & Givette Perez of La Perla Farm

La Perla Farm in the Coatepec basin of Ixhuacán de los Reyes, Veracruz, is a story of heritage renewed. Though the land originally belonged to their grandfather Ernesto, it remained uncultivated for decades until 2021, when siblings Ernesto and Givette Pérez Orea dedicated it to coffee with a vision rooted in research, innovation, and sustainability.

Set at 4,921 feet and surrounded by oak, pine, and fig forests, La Perla benefits from a cool, dry climate softened by frequent fog. Untouched soils, preserved over generations, provide an extraordinary foundation for coffee of exceptional quality. Of the farm’s 86.5 acres, roughly 25 are planted with coffee, while the remaining 61.5 acres are preserved as ecological reserve. Alongside their core Bourbon variety, the siblings are exploring experimental lots of Gesha, SL-28, and Pacamara to uncover new and exciting flavor possibilities.

Though young, La Perla has already shown remarkable promise. Their debut 2023–2024 harvest revealed coffees of striking depth and delicacy, inspiring Ernesto and Givette to bring their washed Bourbon to competitions on the global stage and share the potential of their highland terroir with the world.
