about the farmer

The Pérez Family and La Reforma Farm

La Reforma’s story began in 1904, when Manuel Pérez acquired the farm in the mountains of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, growing tobacco, corn, and beans. His son Leonardo carried on the tradition, and in 1939, Leonardo Pérez II introduced coffee to the farm. What began as a family farm grew into a coffee legacy rooted in resilience, hard work, and love for the land.

Each generation has carried the mission forward, with Manuel’s children and grandchildren expanding the farm and deepening the family tradition. In the early years, it took six days by foot to bring their coffee to market. Their belief in the quality of their beans made the journey worthwhile. Today, the farm is led by Leonardo René Pérez Hidalgo, representing the fourth generation, while the fifth generation is already learning the trade.

Through changing times and growing international recognition, the Pérez family remains committed to their craft and respect for the land. Their passion shows in every step, from nurturing the coffee trees to selecting the finest cherries. For them, coffee is more than a livelihood, it’s a tradition they proudly share with the world in every cup.

Yet, Angelino’s has done just that. For the first time ever, we’re bringing you the best coffees in the world, each crowned a Cup of Excellence in its country. Now, they’re yours to experience.
