6 DIY Coffee-Based Beauty Recipes

The benefits of coffee go way beyond bright mornings and mid-day energy boosts. In addition to many outstanding health benefits, it turns out coffee has some amazing beautifying properties too. Here we've rounded up our favorite DIY coffee-based beauty recipes.

1. Eye Depuffing Treatment

Had a late night? In addition to waking the body and mind, your morning cup of joe can offer a quick fix for those dark bags around your eyes. You see, coffee can shrink blood vessels and remove water content, successfully depuffing the eye area.

How to do it:

After you’re done brewing your fresh cup of Angelino’s, take the aluminum lid off of the pod and let the grinds cool for a bit.  Then scoop them out and add them directly onto your eye area. If you prefer, you can mix the grinds with olive oil or coconut oil. Let the treatment sit on your eyes for at least 15 minutes and rinse off.  Enjoy your morning refreshed and depuffed!

2. Hair Dye & Shine for Brunettes

Coffee’s deep brown tint can slightly dye hair as well as give a lovely sheen, making it the perfect hair hack for brunettes.

How to do it:

Drench your hair with brewed coffee, either using a spray bottle or simply pouring it on your hair. If you are looking to dye your hair, it is recommended you leave the coffee in for at least 20 minutes. For just shinier hair, you may rinse out after 10 minutes.

3. Treatment for Hair Growth

In addition to adding shine and color, coffee grounds are great for exfoliating the scalp and stimulating hair growth. Next time you’re brewing a cup, scoop out the used grinds and set them aside to mix with your conditioner. Gently scrub your scalp with the treatment for a few minutes and rinse off. Do this once a week for the best results.

4. Smoothing Body Scrub

The caffeine found in coffee is beneficial for your entire body. Use your coffee grounds as a scrub by mixing them with your favorite oil. Sesame oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil or almond oil are great examples. Scrub in the concoction in circular motions to exfoliate and remove rough and dead skin cells.  Not only will the scrub exfoliate and smooth your skin, but it will also help tighten and reduce the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks.

5. Cellulite Treatment

Cellulite is an issue women of all sizes deal with and coffee might be the answer. Although it won't entirely rid your body of the unruly dimples, the caffeine found in coffee is key in reducing the appearance of cellulite. This is effective especially after regular use and for a lot less than any salon treatment.

How to do it:

Make the coffee scrub from #4 (mix coffee grounds with coconut oil). Place in affected areas and let it sit. After about 5 minutes massage the mixture in circular motions for another few minutes, and then rinse off.

Bonus tip: Doing this while in the shower is easiest plus the warmth of the shower will allow the caffeine to absorb deeper into your skin.

6. Body Lotion

If a scrub is too harsh on your skin, try making a coffee infused lotion instead. This can be used to moisturize and soften your entire body or placed on affected areas as a cellulite treatment.

How to do it:

Mix grounds in a pot with olive oil and set to light heat. Let the mixture infuse for about 30 minutes. Pour the mixture into a glass jar or other container of choice. Use a coffee filter to remove the coffee grinds from the oil.
